Trump's lawyer believes that the sentencing must be postponed during the appeal process. Their team has requested a response from New York Judge Juan Merkan before 2 pm Eastern Time on January 6th. On January 3rd local time, Judge Juan Merkan in New York ruled to uphold Trump's conviction in the 'hush money' case, rejecting Trump's attempt to overturn the jury's verdict, and set the sentencing date for January 10th. Trump's lawyer previously stated that they would appeal any attempt to sentence him before January 20th, the presidential inauguration day.
