Another Threshold Exceeded in Critical Update Expected to Affect Ethereum Price! - Coin Bulletin
The (ETH) Pectra update of Ethereum was successfully activated on the Sepolia testnet and is expected to be applied to the mainnet in April.
The Pectra update planned for the Ethereum network was deployed on the Sepolia testnet this morning. This test was conducted to evaluate the effects on the network under simulated conditions before the update is applied to the main network.
The Pectra update aims to bring significant improvements to the scalability, security, and usability of the Ethereum network. This activation in Sepolia marks the second phase of the testing process initiated on the Holesky testnet in February. However, some disruptions occurred on the Holesky testnet due to chain splits caused by incorrect deposit contract addresses. Developers have rectified these errors and successfully activated the update on the Sepolia testnet within the planned timeframe.
What will be the contributions of the Pectra update to Ethereum?
Pectra has been dubbed a combination of the "Prague" and "Electra" updates, and it includes several changes to both Ethereum's application layer and consensus layer. The update is expected to be rolled out to the mainnet in early April.
Various improvements have been made to the Ethereum network as part of the update. EIP-7702 introduced changes that will make the user experience more efficient in crypto wallets and account abstraction processes. With EIP-7251, the maximum stake limit for validators was increased from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH in an attempt to enhance the security and decentralization of the network. EIP-7691 also increased the maximum blob count to improve rollup scalability.
The Pectra update is seen as part of Ethereum's ongoing efforts to increase scalability following the Dencun hard fork applied in March 2024. The exact timing of the update to the Ethereum mainnet will be clarified at the All Core Developers (ACD) meeting on Thursday.
