U.S. national debt exceeds $37 trillion, raising concerns about fiscal condition.

On August 13, local time August 12, due to the U.S. federal government continuing to accumulate debt at a record pace, the total U.S. national debt exceeded $37 trillion for the first time. The latest data released by the U.S. Treasury shows that as of that afternoon, the total U.S. national debt had reached $37,004,817,625,842. Maya MacGuineas, chair of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, stated that the U.S. fiscal situation is severely out of balance, yet Congress continues to make matters worse.
