The United States seized 145 domains and cryptocurrency in the BidenCash crackdown.

The U.S. government has announced the closure of BidenCash, a secret online marketplace on the dark web where criminals sell stolen credit card information and personal information. The U.S. Attorney's Office in East Virginia said it controlled 145 website domains and several cryptocurrencies connected to BidenCash through a legitimate operation According to the press release, websites that were once owned by BidenCash now lead you to a police-controlled server. BidenCash started operating in March 2022 and quickly became popular, attracting over 117,000 users in its first year. It made $17 million by selling over 15 million stolen credit card numbers and login information that allowed criminals to access computers. BidenCash gave away 3.3 million stolen credit card records for free between October 2022 and February 2023 to attract more people to its website. The U.S. Secret Service team in Frankfurt, their Cyber Investigation team, and the FBI's Albuquerque office have teamed up to shut down this illegal activity and stop criminals from running it It marks a part of a larger campaign by the United States against dark web crime fueled by cryptocurrency. In a related effort, in May, there were a total of 270 arrests across 10 countries and the seizure of 200 million in assets, including significant amounts of cryptocurrency, targeting drug trafficking networks. In March 2025, the U.S. government targeted Nemesis, a secret online marketplace on the dark web that has been shut down. They have frozen a total of 44 Bitcoin accounts and five Monero accounts that received over $850,000 from July 2022 to March 2024. Nemesis is where people sell illegal items like drugs and fake IDs. By blocking these accounts, the United States aims to stop criminals who are using the site and taking their money. The report from TRM Labs also specifies that the dark web market earned $1.7 billion in 2024. The majority of this money comes from Russian-speaking platforms as the Russian government is not strict in preventing them. This move by the United States shows that they are making further efforts to disrupt illegal online markets, especially those that use cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin to help criminals hide their money and activities.
