The second-generation Solana smartphone Seeker has started shipping to over 50 countries, ushering in a new era of mobile Web3.
Solana Mobile, which develops smartphones for the cryptocurrency (virtual currency) Solana (SOL), announced on the 4th that it has started shipping the second generation of Solana smartphones, "Seeker," as scheduled from the same day.
It was explained that shipments are being made to over 50 countries and that they will arrive over the next few weeks. It is scheduled to start shipping on the 4th, and it was announced that the native token "SKR" will be issued this May, raising expectations among seekers, particularly in the Solana community.
The Seeker is the second generation of the Solana smartphone following the "Saga." The Seeker has collaborated with Solflare to develop the "Seed Vault Wallet," which features the ability to send transactions with a double tap, and has updated the Solana dApp (decentralized application) store.
Emmett Hollyer, the General Manager of Solana Mobile, commented on X as follows in line with the launch.
This is not just a hardware launch, but the beginning of a new era for mobile Web3.
The vision of a truly open and decentralized mobile platform has begun to take shape.
Features of the Seeker
Seeker is based on "Android OS" and incorporates blockchain-related features. In addition to what has been mentioned above, it has characteristics such as utilizing a digital ID called "Seeker ID" and issuing "Genesis Tokens," which are non-transferable soulbound tokens (SBT), for each model.
What is a Soulbound Token?
A non-transferable token that has the characteristic of being unable to be moved outside of a digital wallet once obtained. Major use cases include recording data related to personal credit, such as qualifications, work history, contributions to projects, user authentication information, and loan history.
In addition, the updated app store offers decentralized applications on the Solana blockchain. Users can install and use applications such as games, payments, DeFi (decentralized finance), NFTs, DePIN (decentralized physical infrastructure networks), and AI (artificial intelligence).
One of the major points of attention is the native token SKR that supports the Solana Mobile ecosystem. In May, it was revealed that SKR would be issued alongside the decentralized infrastructure "TEEPIN" as two pillars of a long-term strategy. SKR is said to be used to support the economic zone, incentives, and ownership.
In addition, Solana Mobile posted on X in conjunction with the announcement of the start of shipments that "SKR has not launched yet." They are urging caution to avoid falling victim to scams.
